Using Frit

When using frit, there are a couple of things to take into account.

Frit is actually shattered or powdered glass, so care must be taken not to inhale or ingest the glass particles. Usually just a simple paper or cloth mask is more than adequate.

Please do not rub your eyes when using frit. If the frit accidentally gets into your eyes, flush immediately with water or saline and call the doctor if irritation persists.

Borosilicate (Pyrex) frit (hard glass) does not like to play with soft glass and vice-versa. This will cause thermal shock due to the huge differences in the coefficient of expansions (COEs).

As long as just a little is used, for the most part you can use soft glass frits together with the exception of Satake, as Satake melts when breathed on.

The attached set was made with Bullseye glass and Reichenbach and Zimmerman frits (90coe, 96coe, and 94coe)
